Michal Luczak was born in 1983 in the Region of Silesia (southern Poland). In 2002 he started studying at the Institute of Creative Photography, Silesian University in Opava, the Czech Republic. At the same time he studied the Spanish language at the Silesian University in Katowice, Poland, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree. At present, 5th-year student of MA studies at the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava.
He deals with documentary photography, producing long-term projects, such as Nikisz, presented at the Fotofestiwal in Lodz in 2007. His works have been shown at collective and individual exhibitions, e.g. in Berlin. His photo essay, the White House, was presented at this year’s edition of the Photomonth in Krakow.
Since 2008 he has lived in Warsaw, where he works as a freelance photographer, among others, for Przekroj. He has also published in Tygodnik Powszechny, Pozytyw and the Private Magazine.
He cooperates with the IMAGO MUNDI foundation, based in Krakow. In 2008 and 2009 he assisted the foundation in the preparation of two projects: Stefania Gurdowa. Negatives are to be kept and Stefania Gurdowa. Time of Innocence.
Apart from photography, he produces multimedia presentations using photography, sound and videos.
In 2009, he was awarded the Alexandra Boulat Scholarship, thanks to which he participated in workshops run by Andersem Petersenem. With his latest project named Young Miners Michal Luczak has been qualified as a finalist of the Magnum Expression Award.
